Secure mobility through cybersecurity
The name itself refers to the security of cyber systems and the ISO/SAE 21434 standard ‘Road vehicles – Cybersecurity engineering’ is a standard for cybersecurity in motor vehicles. The status of the ISO standard has been ‘Published’ since August 2021. The designation indicates that the standard was jointly developed and subsequently published by a working group of ISO and SAE.
Due to the increasing risks posed by cyber attacks on vehicles and because the infrastructure for online vehicle updates (OTA), fleet management, communication between vehicles (Car2x/V2X) and other requirements offer vehicles new attack surfaces, the standard is intended to propose measures for development. It is linked to UNECE Regulation R 155 ‘Cybersecurity and cybersecurity management system’. UNECE Regulation R 155 requires vehicle manufacturers to certify a cybersecurity management system. This certification is a prerequisite for the type approval of a vehicle for the European Union and other contracting states.
